Born in Denmark to Icelandic parents, Gunnar cultivated an identity deeply rooted in both Danish and Icelandic cultures. His journey back to his ancestral land in 2015 marked a new chapter, as he embraced Iceland with the fresh perspective of a native and the curiosity of a newcomer.
He initially carved out a successful career in auditing and accounting. However, a profound desire for adventure prompted him to leave the corporate world. Selling everything he owned, he bought a one-way ticket to Iceland, trading his suit and tie for the comfort of Icelandic sweaters knitted by his mother.
Gunnar soon emerged as a prominent name in photography and has established himself as one of Iceland’s leading content creators. His deep-seated passion for storytelling and exploring Iceland’s landscapes led to his moniker, ‘The Icelandic Explorer’. And his mesmerising photography and adventurous personal brand have earned him recognition and the prestigious role of an official Canon ambassador. And if that wasn’t enough Gunnar also featured in the most recent series of Netflix smash, Somebody Feed Phil.
